Build your zeroG® System
Use the following to configure the right zeroG® system for your application
System Overview
zeroG® is an extension of your body that allows you to maneuver heavy tools and parts as if weightless. A zeroG system is comprised of the following:
- Mounting Solution: Mobile and fixed solutions to integrate into your environment.
- zeroG Arm: Weightless payload manipulation with highest freedom of motion.
- Gimbal System: Gives the payload angular freedom of motion.
- Tool Interface: Components to attach a wide range of industrial tools and payload.
(We also have preconfigured solutions for applications such as grinding, riveting, drilling and fastening. Or Contact Us and we'll configure your solution for you.)
1. Mounting Solution
Mobile and fixed solutions to integrate into your environment.
Mobile
Mini Stand: Used in zeroG2 applications that require mobility within the work environment. (PN: 500-5530) Options: Z-Axis adjustable version
Quad Stand: Used in zeroG4 applications that require mobility within the work environment. (PN: 500-5520) Options: Z-Axis adjustable version
Creeper Cart: Used in applications that are near ground level and that may require low vertical profile for clearance. (PN: 500-5560) Options: Max Payload (Tool) Weight 13.5lb, 25lb, 36lb
Telescoping Stand: Used in applications that require vertical range of motion while also clearing low “ceiling”. (PN: 500-5640) Options: “Mini”
Gantry: Used in applications that require mobility and increased lateral range of motion without having to relocate the stand. Common uses include straddling a work table, following an assembly line, or spanning a large gap. (PN: 500-5420) Options: 48”, 72”, 96”, 144” span
Fixed
Linear Rail: Used in applications that require increased lateral range of motion along a fixed path. Common uses include permanent mounting behind a work table or following an assembly line, often where a cart cannot be used on the shop floor. (PN: 500-5710) Options: 48”, 73”, 96”, 144” span
Heavy Jib & Light Jib: Used in applications that can only be installed above floor level and require extended range of motion (for example for multiple workstations and stowage). (PN: 500-5630, 500-5620) Options: 24”, 30”, 36”, 48”, 63”, 72” span
Floor Post: Used in applications that require permanent installation to the shop floor. Counterweight not required. (500-1100-01) Options: 24”, 48”, 72” Height
G2 Static Link: Used in applications that require up to 35” of added reach from a fixed location. (500-5610) Options: 16”, 24”, 30” span
2. zeroG Arm®
Weightless payload manipulation with highest freedom of motion.
Step 1: Choose zeroG® Arm Type
Part Number | Lift Rating | Vertical Travel | Horizontal Travel | |
---|---|---|---|---|
zeroG4® Double Link | 101-5000-2 | 8-36lbs | 32” | 34” |
zeroG4® Double Link + Static Link | 101-5000-2 & 200-5210-03 |
8-36lbs | 32” | 50” |
zeroG4® Single Link | 101-5000-1 | 8-42lbs | 16” | 17” |
zeroG4® Single Link + Static Link | 101-5000-1 & 200-5210-01 |
8-42lbs | 16” | 34” |
zeroG2® | 102-5000-21 | 3-10lbs | 29” | 29” |
Step 2: Choose Features
Enhances zeroG arm performance based on the application.
Dynamic: In this configuration, the zeroG® arm floats most freely, and without friction at the joints.
Positionable: In this configuration, the zeroG® arm is more positionable with slight friction at the joints.
Centering: Added components improve the zeroG arm response to repetitive tasks. Left Hand & Right Hand centering available.
Step 3: Choose Leveling Block
Aligns a zeroG® arm with gravity ensuring the arm is balanced.
Dynamic: Used when frequent and rapid adjustment of zeroG® leveling under load is required. Best paired with mobile mounting solutions. (PN: 500-4100)
Preset: Used in applications that require only occasional adjustment of zeroG® leveling while in service. (PN: 500-4200)
Fixed: Used in applications that do not require adjustment of zeroG® leveling while in service such as with fixed mounting solutions. (PN: 500-4800)
Step 4: Docking (Optional)
Method of stowage of the zeroG® system when not in use.
Hook: Used in applications that require temporary “docking” of the zeroG arm. Not intended for use as a secure dock for tool changing. (PN: 400-6200-01)
Secure: Used in applications that require the arm to be docked into a secure fixed position when not in use. (PN: 400-6300)
Step 5: Cover (Optional)
Offers protection from external factors.
Polyco: Added protection from light dust and debris. Not intended for heat or spark exposure. Disposable.
Silicone: Added protection from light dust and debris. Intended for use in environments with heat or spark exposure, and helps mitigate pinch points.
3. Gimbal System
Gives the payload angular freedom of motion.
Saturn™ Series
Saturn series gimbals are specified for payloads that allow a ring to be installed around the tool at or very near the center of gravity of the payload. There are two styles: Saturn-1 (S1) for payloads above 10lbs and Saturn-2 (S2) for payloads below 10lbs. Select the diameter of the payload (tool) from the charts below to find the appropriate ring size.
S1 | Max | Min |
---|---|---|
Small | 3.08" | 1.58" |
Medium | 4.08" | 2.58" |
Large | 4.89" | 3.39" |
S2 | Max | Min |
---|---|---|
Size 0 | 1.84" | Zero |
Size 1 | 3.00" | 1.50" |
Size 2 | 4.16" | 2.66" |
Size 3 | 5.32" | 3.82" |
Size 4 | 6.47" | 4.97" |
Saturn series gimbals come in four configurations:
• 180° | (S1 PN: 400-0120, S2 PN: 400-0220) |
• 135° | (S1 PN: 400-0125, S2 PN: 400-0225) |
• 90° | (S1 PN: 400-0130, S2 PN: 400-0230) |
• Extended 180° | (S1 PN: 400-0135, S2 PN: 400-0235) |
Use the selection guide below to help choose the appropriate configuration. Kits are available that include all components necessary to build any of the Saturn configurations.
MAG™ Series
MAG series gimbals are used when a ring cannot be installed around the payload. In this case, the MAG gimbal provides the same functionality as its Saturn counterpart, but with a designed-to-fit Tool Interface. Use the selection guide to choose the correct configuration among: 180°, 135°, 90° and Extended 180°. (PN: 400-0320, 400-0325, 400-0330, 400-0335 respectively)
Selection Guide
- Selecting Saturn Series vs. MAG Series: Choose a Saturn gimbal if a ring can be fit around the tool, otherwise MAG.
- Maximizing Range Of Motion: Choose a gimbal that best maintains “orthogonal bearing axis” in all orientations that the tool is used.
- Locating the Payload (Tool or Part): Consider where the payload must be positioned relative to the arm: Above or Below? Near or Far?
- Checking Work Area & Operator: Ensure equipment clears the work area and is not an obstruction to the operator.
Accessories
- Post Extensions: Kits available to extend reach of the payload.
- Post Rotation Lock: Adjusts rotation allowed about zeroG® arm endblock.
- Quick Release: Options available to allow quick release of the tool/payload from the Post & Gimbal.
4. Tool Interface
Components to attach a wide range of industrial tools and payload.
Standard - Saturn™ Series
The most common tool interface utilizes set screws in conjunction with a Saturn Series Gimbal. Set screws thread through the ring to position and secure the payload inside the ring. Set screw packs are provided with all Saturn Series gimbals for ease of installation.
Designed to Fit - MAG™ Series
When a ring will not fit around the center of gravity of a payload, MAG Series Gimbals are used in combination with fit-for-purpose components designed and tested by Equipois. Contact your local sales representative for details.
